Anonymous said: Oops, momma, but there's no such thing as genderfluid, agender or bigender! Gender is determined by your chromosomes. We just can't wake up and decide what gender we want to be, the world doesn't work like that. I want to wake up and decide I want to be a dragon, doesn't mean it's going to happen.
Oh dear, sweetie.
Momma sees that you’ve confused sex and gender.
Those are two very different things, and that is something that is very hard for some people to accept.
Sex is what you are assigned, and that isn’t permanent either, thanks to hormonal treatments and surgeries. Sex is what you have beneath your clothes.
What you can decide and change, is your gender. That is because gender is something created by society, and the people around you.
You may have a room that is shaped like a square, and that is very hard to change, and takes a lot of effort if you do. However, you can decorate that room however you like. If you want to decorate with butterflies or ribbons or superheroes or T-bone steaks cut into the shape of turtles, go right ahead.
Defining somebody’s room or house by its shape and not by what’s inside is rather unwise.
The world does work that way, sweetie.
Some people just don’t want to look inside.
If I follow you, yes, I care about your garden, what your cat did today, the jewelry you made, that one friend who said the thing, i like your sense of humor, and also your selfies.
- Glamour UK: What do you get riled up about in a feminist context?
- Gillian Anderson: A lot. I have feminist bones and when I hear things or see people react to women in certain ways I have very little tolerance.
- Glamour UK: But don't you feel sorry for modern men? Not knowing whether they should help us with our bags and open doors for us or whether we'll see it as an affront?
- Gillian Anderson: No. I don't feel sorry for men.
